Where is Your Focus?

Do you ever do things you wish you didn’t do? Like, say yes to something that you really want to say no to? You know you don’t have the time, energy or commitment, but somehow the wrong words come out of your mouth? “Oh yes! I would LOVE to help you with that!”

Or maybe you are at a department store trying on a new skirt… you are torn… you think it doesn’t look that great on you, but it’s the exact color you’ve been looking for. The sales person comes in and tells you it’s the last one in your size and Jennifer Anniston was seen wearing the same outfit last week… Well, if it’s good enough for Jennifer Anniston, it’s good enough for you… so you purchase it… only to have it languish in your closet for months collecting dust because you never were that comfortable in it.

Or you are driving to pick up your kids and your intuitions tell you to go a different way than usual, but you stick with your routine, only to get stuck in bumper to bumper traffic due to an accident.

Why don’t you listen to yourselves? Why do you weigh other people influence more than your own? How can you better tune into your intuition and feel confident that you do know what is best for you?

One of the great side benefits of a regular meditation program is that you’re better able to tune into your intuition. You allow time for your brain to slow down, for the constant, relentless chatter in your brain to pause and you can hear yourself think. By engaging in a regular practice, you start to listen to your intuition more because you can hear it. When you are going non-stop all day with meetings and music and different programs, you mind never has a chance to disconnect and relax. Meditation provides you with that time.

A meditation practice doesn’t have to be difficult. You don’t have to worry about not doing it right. It’s simply taking time to be with yourself, to shut down the distractions of day to day life, and breathe. You can start small, with 5 minutes a day. An added benefit occurs when you practice at the same time every day. It is like eating… your body likes to eat at the same time every day—it anticipates the food. When the food doesn’t come, your body is distracted because it was relying on that energy source. It’s like that with meditation as well. Your body gets used to getting nourished in that way, the moments to relax and breathe and be. If you practice at the same time, your body know it is that time and you fall into the state of relaxation easier; it becomes a habit.

Meditation strengthens your sense of who you are. It creates the space for you to expand into yourself. Too often people contract themselves during the day trying to meet the needs of others or the opposite, focusing solely on themselves. Meditation develops an alternate space of oneness: being one with the world. Connecting at a new and deeper level. Connecting at a level that grows deeper the more practiced.

Meditation is a practice. It is not something that is ever perfected. The more you practice, the more your practice evolves and deepens. The more you are nourished from your practice. The richer it becomes and you become in the process.

Meditation is a gift that you can give yourself.

If you are feeling overwhelmed or that there’s never enough time or that all this is so pointless, it’s time to consider developing a practice of meditation. You need some nourishment. This is like the flight attendant who tells you to put your own mask on first, and then help others. Meditation is putting your own mask on first. Attending to your need for a solid foundation from which to experience your day.

The Mom’s 21 Day Invitation to Meditation will be starting May 1. If you would like to join us for the process, ping me back and I will add you to the separate list. If you have friends or family members who would benefit from meditation, feel free to forward this email along.

Meditation is a great way to allow yourself space to get out of the overwhelm of daily life, to create space for yourself, and to find your inner strength so that you can listen to yourself, hear your intuition, and know yourself the right way for you.

Don’t feel like you don’t have time. You will be surprised by how time changes for you. The program starts small—you can begin with 3-5 minutes a day and grow from there.

This is a gift that you can give yourself!

You will be glad you did!

Best,

Alicia
