At a networking event last week with 20+ other people, one woman, in the span of less than one minute, said the word “like” 13 times. Even more surprising is that English wasn’t her first language. Somehow she picked up this habit, perhaps from listening to those around her speaking. She was probably not aware of it. She left the event before I could casually bring it to her attention to it so she could present herself better in everyday life.

How do you feel when you go to the bathroom after chatting up a storm with a great group of friends and notice that you have spinach stuck on your tooth? Two hours after lunch and no one mentioned it. But you know they all saw it there, decorating your smile. Until you become conscious of something that you are unaware, you are impacted by it, but you don’t understand the impact it has on you. Others around you see or hear it but few mention it…

What habits do you have that you are unaware of… unconscious of? What do those habits say about you? How do you bring the unconscious to the conscious level? Unless someone points it out to you, you will be oblivious of the flaw, just like you don’t know about the spinach unless someone tells you, or you make your way to the bathroom and do a tooth check. Friends often don’t notice these insidious little habits because they become immune to them after a bit of time… like the gas station attendant who no longer notices the smell of gas.

This is where a support group comes in handy. A group that knows you and can point these habits out so that you become aware of them and can make decisions with knowledge. Maybe you mean to say “like” 13 times in less than a minute. That’s your choice. But it needs to be a conscious choice and not something coming from your blind spot. MasterMind groups are small groups that support each other in their growth and development. These groups help you to achieve the goals you set out to achieve. They not only support you, but also hold you accountable to what you say you are going to do. They are so a great way to have a community of people you can rely on who have your back. More than that, the group can support you with collaboration, networking, feedback, new perspective, mentoring, motivation and more.

Where ever you are now, MasterMind Groups are a great way to take your life or your career to the next level. If you are interested in finding out more about MasterMind Groups forming in the San Francisco Bay Area, email me back and I will let you know what you can expect.

Mostly, you can expect people who will tell you when you have spinach stuck on your tooth or that you’re sounding like a Valley Girl.

Best,
