The feeling persisted. I felt stagnant, bloated, blah. Where was my usual energy and joi de vivre? I felt like my life force had been drained out of me.

Then my friend told me about feng shui. I got a book from my kid’s school library. (I wanted to be able to grasp those concepts easily, and decorating is not my thing.)

If you aren’t familiar with it, Feng Shui is a Chinese philosophy of arranging items in your living space, like your sofa, desk, or bed, to balance the natural world.

“Feng shui aims to harness energy forces and establish harmony between an individual and their environment.”

“Chi” is the vital life force or energy. This life force must be able to move comfortably around a room. The energy doesn’t move easily if there’s too much or too little furniture. When there’s too much stuff, you feel stagnant in the room. This is because the energy is stuck.

I got a big aha. I had too much stuff in my room.

When anyone in my house didn’t know where to put something, they put it in my office, which made it a bit of a cluster-f*ck and drove me crazy, but that’s how it was.

I was feeling the effects of stuck energy.

Once I had a good diagnosis, I went to work.

I emptied everything out of my office (no easy process), then went to work to organize and systematize everything.

It took me three solid days of work.

(And to be honest, it was a nightmare… my brain hurt from all the thinking about how I wanted things to be and NOT be.)

In the end, I got my office set up exactly how I wanted, and I put all the stuff that didn’t fit in the garbage can or in the basement marked with a destruction date.

I felt immeasurably better and became very productive.

Then we went on a five-week family trip during the summer, and while we were gone, everything stacked up in my office AGAIN.

At least this time, I knew the solution!

That revealed that this is an ongoing process and not a once-and-done process!

If you are feeling stuck and your energy is stagnant, the answer or solution is NOT to wallow in it. The Answer is to TAKE ACTION. Take INSPIRED ACTION!!!

One important thing I already had was a perfectly clear view of my core values, strengths, and vision of my Future Self. That is what enabled me to align my office effectively.
