The most significant piece of advice that I share most often is from Jim Rohn. You’ve heard me say it (or read it in this blog…).

“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”

The people you hang out with influence your behavior, attitudes, and results.

They shape your conversations.

They shape what you hold to be acceptable or not.

The people you hang out with hugely impact your life.

Take the example of the one teacher who believes in you when no one else does. Having that person as your keystone relationship can keep you from making terrible decisions.

Or the thought of that person can get you back on track.

If you hang out with a group that drinks too much too often… it will slow you down and hold you back from reaching your potential.

You can probably think back to high school to the groups who weren’t “college-bound”—they hung out together. They had low expectations for each other in academics.

You can see the impact on gangs—how they influence each other negatively.

How do you find the people who will help you blossom into the person you can be? The people who will hold you to a higher standard? The people who will expect more from you?

How do you find the people you admire and WANT to be around?

During this time, connecting in real-time is… challenging!

A great way to continue your path is through reading great autobiographies and biographies of people who have done well for themselves. Abraham Lincoln. Aristotle. Churchill. Warren Buffet. Ray Dalio. Those names come to mind for some reason.

Time is precious. We are careful not to waste our money, but we can get more money. We can never get more time. Life is a one-way trip. So during this time of forced social isolation, when we can’t be with the five influencers of our life, choose to be with people who can influence you in a more meaningful way.

Make this time count for you.

Connect with the people who will make a difference.

Why not email me back and let me know who has influenced your life positively through your reading?
